Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates
This 132 metre wide hangar for Emirate Airlines with a clear
entry height of 20 metres and two 66 metre spans, was designed
to take 2 Airbus A320-200 jets. The steelwork was designed, fabricated and shipped by us in 8
weeks and erected by local engineers in record time. The Main Contractor was Dutco Balfour Beatty.
We also designed, made and
shipped the 1300 tonne structure for the Air Cargo Terminal in
12 weeks which was also erected in record time.

British Aerospace, Hatfield
With an 80 metre span and an overall height of 20 metres
allowing 13.5 metres clearance, this was
not just another shed for aeroplanes. It was part of a precision
built complex for fitting out BAE 146 'Whispering Jet' Airliners
and contains sophisticated equipment such as four 3.2 tonne
overhead travelling cranes with rails levelled by laser beam to
fine limits.
A constant temperature heating plant and a fire
protection system were built in. The structure also incorporates
a structurally independent Annexe with design and administrative
offices and stores.
The electrically operated doors, with
built-in personnel doors and patent glazing, are fully
insulated, and have anemometer controlled cut outs to prevent
opening in high winds.

Bournemouth International Airport
This 85 metres clear span hangar, which has a clear tailgate
entry height of 19.8 metres and a clear mid height inside of 24
metres, is big enough to take most aircraft flying today. The
hangar was designed, fabricated and erected by us. We also did
all the civils work, including foundations, floor slabs and
apron.
It is used by FR Aviation in association with sister company,
Flight Refueling Ltd, who pioneered inflight refueling, to
convert big commercial jets into fuel carrying tankers.
The aircraft in this photograph is an RAF
VC 10 refuelling tanker.

Manchester
International Airport
This 85 metres clear span hangar for Monarch Aircraft
Engineering, is for maintenance of airliners up to jumbo size.
We did the steelwork design, fabrication, erection and cladding
of the hangar and its electrically operated doors and the two
storey office at the side, as well as making and fitting the
double glazed aluminium windows in the offices and main doors.
The cladding of the doors, roof and
walls is double-skinned and insulated. Note the high proportion
of natural daylight from the double skinned translucent panels in the roof and walls.
The aircraft in the bottom picture is a wide bodied DC
10.

Shannon Airport,
Eire
76 metre span maintenance Hangar, for UPS.
Courier Services, Shannon Airport, Co Clare, Eire.
This 5700m2 aircraft maintenance Hangar built for Aer Rianta to keep the world renowned UPS Courier Services airborne and carrying cargo to the four corners of the globe, proved to be quite a challenge to our erection team.
In this instance the customer specified the use of lifting fabric doors, which were supplied by Megadoor. They are 76m wide and 20m high and required our team of designers, draughtsmen, fabricators and erectors to work very closely with the fabric door supplier.
The contractor who did all the site civil work was the Limerick branch of John Sisk & Son Ltd, whose head office is in Dublin.
We also did the structure for the administration building on the side
of the hangar, including all the curtain walling, windows, glazing & entrance doors.
