Helicopter Hangar, Mauritania
This helicopter hangar was constructed for Woodside Mauritania. It is a multi-span, propped portal building with REIDsteel Archspan frames. The hangar measures 25m x 25m, and is 5m high, with two lean-tos on either side.
There are 5.5m outriggers on each side of the doorway, meaning doors can be rolled back to give maximum clear entry of 25m. Both the hangar doors and personnel doors were manufactured by REIDsteel.
REIDsteel also supplied a 2 tonne EOT crane for the hangar, as well as incorporating crane beams and rails into the steelwork. |

Flying Club and Maintenance Hangar at Bristol International Airport
As one of the fastest growing regional airports, Bristol International Airport needed to expand and create more apron space. For this expansion to take place, it was necessary to relocate Bristol Flying Club from the north side of the airport to the south side, and provide additional light aircraft parking. Civil engineers BAM Nuttall chose REIDsteel to construct the new steel buildings.
Construction of the 30m by 60m steel portal frame maintenance hangar was undertaken on a design and build basis, whilst the new 2-storey steel framed office building was designed by the client's own team. Maximum clear entry was required for the hangar, but as the office building was built just a few metres to the right of the hangar, there was only room for an outrigger to the left of the doors. REIDsteel were able to overcome building space limitations, and design a practical and economical hangar which met all of the specifications.
Close liaison with airport staff and enforcement of a strict safety regime on the contract enabled safe completion of the works with minimal disruption to ongoing operational activities at the airport. |

Vektra Aviation Hangar, Montenegro
Vektra Aviation is a VIP airline based in Podgorica, Montenegro. This steel framed aircraft hangar at its main base in Podgorica Airport is large enough to hold all five aircraft currently in the fleet.
The hangar is 40m x 52m, with a clear height of 12.6m. The main doors are of steel frame construction and are electrically operated. The doors are bottom rolling on substantial wheels, on tracks complete with adjustable sleepers. The top door guides consist of vertical rollers moving between steel guides, which are protected from the weather by a hood and seals.
There are 6 door slabs on 3 tracks, giving an entrance 39m x 12.6m high, each slab having its own electric motor, driving the ground wheels through a reduction gear box and chain drive. |

Prestwick International Airport
80 metre span hangar, for servicing a fleet of boeing
747-400 series freighters for Polar Air. We
designed, made and erected the complete structure using our
patented segmental tied portal concept. Design fabrication and
erection took 26 weeks.
A safety feature is the permanent, all
round, Roof Edge Protection for use during construction and for
future maintenance. We also designed and made the
electro-mechanical doors complete with outriggers to allow full
width opening.
We ensured that Health and Safety and CDM Regulations were met
during the construction, and for the design life of the
structure. |

Shannon International Airport
68 metre span hangar, for the European Airbus A330 for Aer
Rianta Plc.
The Hangar has a 20 metres clear height to tailgate top, with
electro-mechanical doors and a remotely operated tailgate door made
by us. We also made the the office and workshop structures. We
provided permanent Roof Edge Protection (bottom Picture), to
protect workers during construction and for future inspection or
maintenance.
We also designed and made a full span protected
walkway at upper track level, accessed by protected ladders from
ground level, to install and align the upper door guides and
electrical pick up track. The walkway will also be available for
future inspection and maintenance. We ensured that Health and Safety and
CDM Regulations were met during the construction, and for the
design life of the structure. |
